Local Call: independent journalism in Israel after 7 October 2023

Over 18 months after the Hamas attacks on 7 October 2023 and following the massacre in Gaza, Israeli society perseveres at its wilful ignorance. With the death toll in the pummelled Strip at a frightening level, South Africa petitioning the ICJ under the convention for prevention of genocide, and an arrest warrant issued by the ICC against prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu - Israeli society is still choosing to look away from the war crimes enacted in its name. The Israeli media is entirely complicit, as it chooses to hide the basic reality of the war, one which is seen everywhere else around the world.
In this panel, members of the team of Local Call will discuss their work documenting and resisting the genocidal war in Gaza, what it looks like being the only platform to publish voices on the ground from Gaza in Hebrew, and platforming the voices that are calling for a ceasefire, the return of the hostages, and a future of justice and peace without apartheid.
