Patrick Gathara is the Senior Editor for Inclusive Storytelling at The New Humanitarian, which has been covering humanitarian crises for 30 years. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, he leads TNH’s efforts at decolonising humanitarian journalism and works across the newsroom – and the organisation – to explore formats that challenge some of the Western-centric narrative habits of traditional journalism. Patrick was previously curator-in-chief of The Elephant, an online newsmagazine, and his commentaries and cartoons have been published in a wide range of publications including Al Jazeera, The Washington Post, and The Financial Times.
