Montaser Marai is the Manager of Media Initiatives at Al Jazeera Media Institute, part of the Al Jazeera Media Network. He is a Jordanian journalist and documentary filmmaker who joined Al Jazeera Channel in 2002. In early 2014, The New Yorker published a story about his experience in the Arab Spring, titled Journalism Becomes a Crime in Egypt. In February 2011, Marai was the main journalist for Al Jazeera Channel covering the Egyptian Revolution in Tahrir Square and from Libya. Al Jazeera played a major role in covering the Arab Spring, empowering ordinary people or citizen journalists and giving them a platform to tell their stories. Marai has built his experience in journalism, digital media, teaching, and launching media development initiatives.
