Marie-Janine Calic

Marie-Janine Calic is Professor for East and South East European History at the University of Munich and was previously Dean of the Faculty of History and the Arts. She was Visiting scholar at Harvard and Visiting professor at the College of Europe/Natolin. Away from her permanent employment she worked for the Special Coordinator of the Stability Pact for Southeastern Europe in Brussels, UNPROFOR-Headquarters in Zagreb, and the ICTY in The Hague. She is the author of numerous publications which are translated into ten languages. Recent publications include: “The Great Cauldron. A History of Southeast Europe,” Cambridge/London, Harvard University Press 2019; “A History of Yugoslavia,” West Lafayette, Purdue University Press 2019; „Tito. Eine Biographie,“ München: C.H. Beck 2020; “Geschichte des Balkans,” München: C.H. Beck 2023. She is a regular commentator on Balkan affairs for the media.
