Francesco de Cristofaro è professore ordinario di Letterature comparate all’Università di Napoli Federico II. Ha vinto il premio Sapegno con il volume Zoo di romanzi. Balzac, Manzoni, Dickens e altri bestiari (Liguori, 2002). Autore di saggi in volume e in riviste come Modern Language Notes, Intersezioni, Lettere italiane, Allegoria, Between, Enthymema e molte altre, ha curato un’edizione antologica delle Opere di Giovanni Verga (Treccani, 2012), un’edizione commentata dei Promessi sposi (Rizzoli, 2014; a Manzoni ha dedicato anche un profilo critico, edito dal Mulino nel 2009) e una raccolta di saggi e articoli di Rossana Rossanda (Aperte lettere, Nottetempo 2023). Nel 2017 ha coordinato le ricerche Il borghese fa il mondo e L’epica dopo il moderno (1945-2015), i cui risultati sono stati pubblicati da Donzelli e da Pacini. Ha pubblicato il manuale Letterature comparate (Carocci, 2014; n.e. 2020) e ha curato, con Giancarlo Alfano, l’opera in quattro volumi Il romanzo in Italia (Carocci, 2018). Coordina il Laboratorio Malatestiano e l’Opificio di Letteratura Reale, da cui è scaturita una serie di volumi da lui curati e pubblicati da Ad est dell’equatore (da Delle coincidenze, 2012, a Ridere, ridere, ridere ancora, 2022). Il suo ultimo libro è La palla al balzo. Dieci viaggi nella letteratura e nell’immaginario del Novecento (Carocci, 2021); in corso di pubblicazione la curatela di E. Petrolini, Modestia a parte… (nell’Archivio del romanzo di Guida Edizioni) e la monografia manzoniana Il libro della guerra e della pace.
