La guerra civile (Pharsalia) di Marco Anneo Lucano racconta il feroce scontro tra Cesare e Pompeo che, dal passaggio del fiume Rubicone fino all’epocale battaglia di Farsalo, dilaniò Roma tra il 49 e il 45 a.C. Spesso definita una “antieneide”, sia per il linguaggio barocco ed espressionistico sia per i toni crudi e realistici con i quali descrive l’orrore della guerra, quel poema costò al suo giovanissimo autore la condanna a morte da parte di Nerone.
A partire dal capolavoro di Lucano, il testo di Fabrizio Sinisi ripercorre la metamorfosi di un mondo che da repubblica si trasforma in dittatura, con echi che arrivano fino al nostro presente. Dando voce al personaggio di Catone, la lettura di Umberto Orsini farà rivivere le vicende sanguinose, gli avvicendamenti politici e le cause profonde che governano i meccanismi della violenza politica dall’antica Roma fino a oggi.
