Oggi piú che mai abbiamo cambiato il modo di guardare ai monumenti. Non più solo ricordo del passato ma anche informazione preziosa sul presente. Oggi i monumenti sono abbattuti, cancellati o modificati. È già accaduto molte volte nella storia e sempre durante svolte epocali, come per esempio gli anni della Rivoluzione francese o quelli della decomunistizzazione nell’Europa dell’Est. È quindi il momento giusto per provare a rispondere ad alcune domande cruciali: qual è il ruolo dei monumenti? Perché il loro abbattimento suscita cosí tanto scalpore? Ed è giusto, talvolta, buttarli giù ? Una questione aperta, tra arte e democrazia.
