Il De vulgari eloquentia di Dante riprende una leggenda medievale: la pantera emana dalle sue fauci la scia di un meraviglioso profumo che invita i cacciatori a inseguirla, senza che riescano però a catturarla. Dante trasforma la leggenda in una metafora viva: il volgare illustre è quella pantera “che fa sentire il suo profumo in ogni città, ma non ha la sua dimora in alcuna”. Fuor di metafora: ogni lingua ha il profumo della poesia, ma come essere certi che diventi opera d’arte e di civiltà? Una risposta particolarmente articolata e persuasiva sa darla il friulano, con la sua grande storia millenaria, la sua letteratura tra le più interessanti in circolazione, e la sua forza ancora oggi viva e attuale.
